Chinese President Xi Jinping said China stands ready to work with Kazakhstan to contribute more to regional and world peace and development during his talks with Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev in Astana on Monday.

Xi arrived in the Kazakh capital earlier on the same day to attend the second China-Central Asia Summit at the invitation of Tokayev.

During the meeting between the two heads of state at the Ak Orda Presidential Palace, Xi hailed the strength of ties between the two neighboring nations.

"China-Kazakhstan relations have withstood the test of a changing international landscape and have constantly grown at a high level. This is attributed to our geographical proximity as neighbors and our historical bond of friendship passed down through generations, as well as the natural choice of our two nations for common development. I am ready to work with you to steadfastly strengthen the China-Kazakhstan friendship, advance all-round cooperation with concerted efforts, and contribute more to regional and global peace and development through the stability and positive energy of our bilateral relations," he said.

Xi said that China and Kazakhstan should continue to support each other on issues involving core interests and major concerns, and promote synergy of their respective development strategies.

He also called on both countries to expand law enforcement and defense exchanges, jointly combat terrorism, separatism and extremism, and added that the two sides should promote connectivity, high-tech cooperation and green development.

For his part, Tokayev noted that Kazakhstan and China share a strong political will to enhance cooperation, and always support each other on issues involving core interests such as sovereignty and security, irrespective of any changes in the international situation.

"Our two countries have long maintained enduring and stable good-neighborly relations, irrespective of geopolitical challenges, turbulence, or changes in the international situation," said the Kazakh president.

Protests against federal immigration enforcement are spreading across the United States, with the latest demonstration unfolding directly in front of the White House.

Early Saturday, more than a hundred demonstrators gathered there, demanding changes to the Trump administration's immigration policies and accountability for recent shootings involving federal agents.

Immigrant rights and civil rights groups said this weekend's rallies mark a coordinated national response. Demonstrations are planned or already underway in major cities including Philadelphia, as well as across states such as North Carolina, Florida, Texas, and Washington, D.C., where organizers are calling for the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to be removed from local communities.

The nationwide protests follow a deadly week in which three people were shot by federal agents in two days.

In Minneapolis, Minnesota, a 37-year-old woman, Renee Good, was killed during an enforcement operation by the ICE. A day later in Portland, Oregon, a man and a woman were wounded during a separate federal operation.

In the aftermath, Minnesota state officials accused the Trump administration of blocking their investigation by denying access to key evidence and prematurely drawing conclusions before a full review could be completed.

On Friday, Donald Trump defended the Department of Homeland Security's actions, sharply criticizing Minnesota leaders and calling them corrupt.

Local leaders have pushed back. During a Saturday news conference, the mayor of Minneapolis described ICE agents' actions as reckless.

Officials in both Minneapolis and Portland continue urging demonstrators to remain peaceful as protests intensify nationwide.

According to a 50501 Movement statement issued Friday, at least 32 people died in ICE custody in 2025.
