To celebrate the 28th anniversary of Hong Kong's return to China, the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) Hong Kong Garrison held an open day event starting on Saturday.

The PLA Hong Kong Garrison held the national flag-raising ceremony on Saturday.

Representatives of the army, navy and air force of the Hong Kong garrison, together with a large number of local residents, stood solemnly and saluted the national flag.

They sang the national anthem in high spirit, expressing their profound love for the motherland.

"It's the first time I saw the flag-raising ceremony so up close, and I'm very excited. When the soldiers passed by, I was really moved and thrilled. I wish Hong Kong a better tomorrow," said a resident.

After the flag-raising ceremony, the PLA HK Garrison prepared various performances such as the military band formation, combat performance, and helicopter show.

At a military weapon and equipment exhibition area, visitors were invited to experience knot-tying and simulated shooting, trying the operation of real military equipment up close.

"I just saw that the PLA soldiers are very tall, strong and powerful. I'd like to say thank you to them for being stationed in Hong Kong. We are grateful for their protection of Hong Kong's safety," said a local student.

The PLA HK Garrison also prepared artistic performances themed "paying tribute to the motherland", aiming to show the deep bond between the Garrison and local people.

During the two-day event, the Chinese PLA Hong Kong Garrison's Ngong Shuen Chau Barracks, Shek Kong Barracks and San Wai Barracks will be open to the public, which allows HK residents to know more about the military life and the motherland.
