Shanxi and Shandong, two heatwave-hit provinces in China, have taken measures to improve passenger comfort in the public transit system and ensure agricultural production in the face of rising temperatures.   Multiple cities in Shanxi issued a yellow alert for high temperatures on Sunday as the temperature in some areas reached 35 degrees Celsius or above.   In Taiyuan, the provincial capital of Shanxi, the bus company has repaired and maintained air conditioning systems of its vehicles to ensure their cooling effects.   "We will clean the air conditioning filters of all the buses, check if the starter panel can run normally, and test the air outlet power and the cooling effect, to ensure that the temperature inside the bus can be normally reduced to below 24 degrees Celsius," said Lyu Zhenjie, a maintenance crew leader at the No.4 Car Branch of Taiyuan Public Transport Holding Group.   In addition, the bus company also relies on the intelligent dispatching center to keep abreast of the real-time passenger flow. For the routes passing through busy areas such as schools, shopping malls and hospitals, the company adjusts the frequency of buses to reduce passengers' waiting time in the hot weather.   "The air conditioner in the bus works really well. It's great that we can enjoy a comfortable ride," said Wang Wenhan, a passenger.   The heatwave also poses a threat to farming in the major grain producing province of Shandong, where the temperature exceeded 35 degrees Celsius.   In Wucheng County of Shandong, measures have been taken to ensure the germination of freshly sown corn seeds, with all local drip irrigation facilities activated to maintain adequate moisture in the soil.    Compared with flood irrigation, drip irrigation can replenish water more frequently and in smaller amounts. This method not only saves water but also prevents the soil from being too wet or dry by precisely controlling the amount of water supplied.
