Xi first extended his welcome to Wong, and congratulated him on leading Singapore's People's Action Party (PAP) to victory in the general election in May and continuing his tenure as prime minister.

"Your decision to choose China as your first official visit destination outside ASEAN after taking office underscores the great importance you attach to China-Singapore relations. This year marks the 35th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between our two countries. In the face of an increasingly complex and volatile international landscape, China is willing to work with Singapore to enhance strategic communication, foster closer cooperation, and jointly address challenges, so as to deliver more benefits to the two peoples," Xi said.

For his part, Wong said bilateral ties hold even greater significance amid global uncertainty and called for closer cooperation to uphold multilateralism and international order.

"In this time of global turbulence and uncertainty, I believe the China-Singapore relationship is more important than before, and we can work together to establish closer ties and also to cooperate in regional and multilateral platforms to continue to strengthen multilateralism and rule-based global order for the benefit of all countries," the Singaporean prime minister said.
