Chinese troops with UN peacekeeping experiences will participate in the Sept. 3 military parade marking the 80th anniversary of the victory against Japanese aggression and fascism, said a senior military officer at a press conference in Beijing on Tuesday.
This arrangement not only highlights China's solemn commemoration of the victory in the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War, but also demonstrates the country's commitment to fulfilling international obligations and safeguarding world peace, said Wu Zeke, a senior officer of the Joint Staff Department of the Central Military Commission and deputy director of the Leading Group Office of Military Parade.
"This year marks the 35th anniversary of the Chinese army's participation in UN peacekeeping operations. Throughout the 35 years, the Chinese army has sent more than 50,000 peacekeepers to more than 20 countries and regions, including South Sudan and Lebanon, undertaking 26 UN peacekeeping missions. A total of 17 Chinese service members have dedicated their precious lives in the pursuit of global peace," Wu said.
"The arrangement for peacekeeping veterans to participate in the parade not only highlights the solemn commemoration of the victory in the anti-Japanese and anti-Fascist War, but also demonstrates China's commitment to fulfilling international obligations and safeguarding world peace as a major country. The Chinese army has always been a steadfast force for world peace. We will faithfully practice the concept of a community with a shared future for mankind, actively fulfill the responsibilities of the army of a major country, comprehensively advance international military cooperation in the new era, provide more public security products to the international community, and make greater contributions to safeguarding world peace and regional stability," he said.
