Chinese Vice President Han Zheng met with heads of foreign delegations attending the 20th meeting of the Security Council Secretaries of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Member States in Beijing on Tuesday.

Han said that the Global Security Initiative proposed by Chinese President Xi Jinping, which advocates a vision of common, comprehensive, cooperative and sustainable security, has gained extensive recognition and support from more and more countries.

China stands ready to work with other member states of the SCO to uphold multilateralism for lasting security, adhere to the spirit of the rule of law for mutual benefit and win-win results, uphold equality and solidarity to pursue common governance, enhance cooperation and capacity building, and give further play to the role of the SCO in maintaining security and stability in a world fraught with uncertainties and instabilities, said Han.

Kazakh Security Council Secretary Gizat Nurdauletov and Belarusian Security Council State Secretary Alexander Volfovich said they highly appreciate China's important role as the rotating chair of the SCO and show their willingness to cooperate in addressing security challenges.

Established in 2001, the SCO is a regional political, economic and security organization that groups China, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, India, Pakistan, Iran and Belarus as full members.

Protesters filled Mexico City's Paseo de la Reforma on Saturday, rallying in solidarity with Venezuela and denouncing U.S. influence in Latin America.

The United States launched a large-scale military operation against Venezuela in the early hours of Jan 3, taking by force Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores.

Holding numerous flags and banners while chanting slogans intermittently, a huge crowd of protesters criticized U.S. military actions against Venezuela and the unlawful control over President Maduro and his spouse, calling for respect for national sovereignty and regional peace.

"We oppose the U.S. intervention and hegemony towards the countries in Latin America. The United States has flagrantly trampled on international law, bombed Caracas and kidnapped the Maduro couple. The U.S. interventionism has become extremely blatant. We must firmly oppose and be highly vigilant, because this is not only related to a certain country, but also to all countries," said a protester.

"We demand that the United States stop interfering in Venezuela's internal affairs. The country must immediately cease its exploitation and plundering of the countries in Latin America," said another protester.
