As the Israeli military shifts its focus back to Gaza, the suffering of displaced civilians in the region persists, exacerbating the ongoing humanitarian crisis.
The prolonged conflict has led to a worsening humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip, forcing many homeless Palestinians to live in temporary tents. They struggle to survive amidst war, hunger, and extremely harsh conditions.
Some Palestinians who experienced the Six-Day War in 1967 said that the suffering caused by the current conflict far exceeds anything they have faced before, marking it as an endless humanitarian disaster.
Although the conflict has persisted for over a year, Ahed Hamouda still struggles to comprehend the drastic changes in his life.
"Before the war, our lives were much better. We used to live in houses made of concrete, but now we can only huddle in a tent made of cloth. In winter, a gust of wind can blow the tent away, leaving us to sleep in the cold wind," he said.
Nabil Al-Helou, Ahed Hamouda's neighbor, is also trapped in despair. This year, the Israeli military's attacks on Gaza City caused his seven-story house to collapse in an instant, leaving him with nothing but the loss of his life savings and all his means of support.
"A place where you have lived your entire life suddenly collapses, and it is a lifetime of loss. We Palestinians, as refugees, have been always losing on each front," said Nabil Al-Helou.
Having lived through the Six-Day War in 1967, they had hoped that life would gradually stabilize after the conflict. However, the outbreak of a new wave of large-scale conflict between Palestine and Israel has completely shattered their hopes for the future.
At present, the Israeli military has once again announced a shift in military focus on the Gaza Strip. This is tantamount to declaring the end of hope for them.
"The war of 1967 lasted just six days, but the current plight seems never-ending. We continue to suffer from bombings and destruction, living in extreme pain and poverty," said Ahed Hamouda.
