The Chinese Foreign Ministry on Friday expressed deep concern over the injury of a Chinese journalist in a Ukrainian drone attack targeting local facilities while reporting in western Russia's Kursk region.
"We are deeply concerned that a Chinese journalist got injured while making news coverage. China calls on all parties to work for a political settlement of the Ukraine crisis and jointly deescalate the situation," Guo Jiakun, a spokesman of the ministry, said at a press conference in Beijing.
According to Chinese media outlet Phoenix TV, on Thursday afternoon local time, a news crew led by journalist Lu Yuguang came under a Ukrainian drone attack while covering news in Russia's Kursk region. Lu, who was conducting an on-site interview at the time, sustained a head injury and was immediately taken to a medical aid station for treatment. He was later transferred to a hospital in the city of Kursk for further examination and care.
Russian Investigative Committee Spokeswoman Svetlana Petrenko told Russia's Sputnik News Agency on Friday that the Main Military Investigation Department of the committee has opened a criminal case on the grounds of crimes under a terrorist act and is confirming the identity of involved Ukrainian military personnel.
