Israeli attacks kill at least 20 Palestinians in Al-Tuffah neighborhood

At least 20 Palestinians, including children, were killed in two Israeli airstrikes in Al-Tuffah neighborhood, east of Gaza City, on Saturday.

According to the Gaza Civil Defense, dozens more were injured in the twin attacks -- one targeting a group of civilians near the Jaffa School shelter, and the other striking a crowded marketplace in the same neighborhood.

Some of the wounded were rushed to the Baptist Hospital in Gaza City on Saturday evening, where CGTN reporter witnessed the scene of chaos. Due to severe shortages in medical supplies and facilities, injured civilians were lying on the hospital floor awaiting treatment.

"I'm not affiliated with Hamas. I'm just a poor citizen trying to find food for my three children. I went out to buy flour and was on my way home when a missile struck the street near the school. I was hit in the head by shrapnel," said an injured man named Alian Khudair.

"We received around 50 injured people all at once, most of them are women, children and seniors, suffering from shrapnel wounds to the head, chest, and other parts of the body. Despite the lack of resources and medical beds, we are doing our best to treat them with what we have," said hospital receptionist Ahmed Abed.

The two attacks, both in densely populated civilian areas, have drawn sharp concern from local emergency workers.

With the wounded still arriving in waves and medical teams overwhelmed, Mahmoud Basal, a Palestinian Civil Defense spokesperson, said the attacks targeted non-combatants.

"Multiple massacres were committed, directly targeting civilians. In the Jaffa Street area, two separate attacks took place an hour apart. The first strike hit civilians in the middle of the market, a missile fired from a drone, killing 11 and injuring over 30. Ten of the injured are in critical condition, according to the doctors. The second attack came an hour later, again targeting civilians in the same area, killing nine more, including children," said Mahmoud Basal, Palestinian Civil Defense spokesperson.

The central parity rate of the Chinese currency renminbi, or the yuan, strengthened 20 pips to 7.0108 against the U.S. dollar Monday, according to the China Foreign Exchange Trade System.

In China's spot foreign exchange market, the yuan is allowed to rise or fall by 2 percent from the central parity rate each trading day.

The central parity rate of the yuan against the U.S. dollar is based on a weighted average of prices offered by market makers before the opening of the interbank market each business day.
