Recovery efforts have been underway on Sunday in Qiandongnan Miao and Dong Autonomous Prefecture in southwest China's Guizhou Province, following widespread flooding triggered by heavy downpours last week.

In Rongjiang County, authorities lifted the top-level emergency flood response on Sunday morning, shifting back to routine flood control efforts after heavy rainfall subsided and water levels stabilized. One day earlier, a local hydrological station on the Duliu River, which runs through the county, recorded a water level of 253.06 meters, with a flow rate of 8,000 cubic meters per second.

In response, armed police and militia immediately rushed to the scene and evacuated more than 41,500 people to safety as of Saturday afternoon.

With floodwaters receding, residents are gradually returning to their homes, and emergency crews are working to pump water from flooded underground areas. Relief supplies are being distributed to those in need in an orderly manner.

In Kaili City, the popular tourist destination Xiasi Ancient Town remains closed after being inundated by floodwaters on Saturday.

As the floodwaters recede, relief efforts will focus on clearing debris, disinfecting affected areas, and conducting thorough safety inspections on infrastructure and facilities.

Danzhai County, which has been hit by heavy downpours since Friday morning, has seen flash floods inundate several riverside villages, prompting the emergency evacuation of residents.

On Saturday evening, a batch of relief supplies arrived in the county, including folding beds, bedding, generators, and other daily essentials to support evacuated residents.

In Leishan County, the Danjiang River overflowed its banks Saturday morning, flooding low-lying areas and damaging buildings. According to a local hydrological station, the water level of the Danjiang River peaked at around 10:00 Saturday and then began to drop slowly.

At present, water authorities are closely monitoring changes in water levels and reinforcing flood defenses.

In Qiannan Buyi and Miao Autonomous Prefecture, Sandu County, located upstream of Rongjiang County, also experienced heavy rainfall from Friday night to Saturday, with a maximum recorded rainfall of 192 millimeters.

Floodwaters have devastated buildings, forcing over 2,700 residents to relocate to safety. As the floodwaters receded Saturday afternoon, residents and officials began cleanup and recovery efforts.

With further rainfall anticipated in the coming days, local authorities remain vigilant and are mobilizing resources to support affected communities and facilitate ongoing relief and recovery efforts.

The National Development and Reform Commission said Saturday that it has allocated another 100 million yuan (about 13.95 million U.S. dollars) on top of the 100 million yuan it allocated on Wednesday to assist disaster relief efforts in Guizhou Province.

Thousands of demonstrators rallied in Italy and Greece on Saturday to protest against U.S. military intervention in Venezuela, with protesters in Rome, Milan and Athens condemning Washington's actions and calling for respect for Venezuelan sovereignty.

In Rome, more than 1,000 demonstrators marched toward the area near the U.S. Embassy, calling on Washington to immediately release Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro and his wife.

Police blocked roads around the embassy to prevent protesters from approaching the building, but demonstrators continued to denounce U.S. actions.

"First of all, we oppose U.S. imperialist aggression. This kind of behavior is shameful. The U.S. is attacking a sovereign country, and as [U.S. President Donald] Trump himself has said, this is for oil interests," said protester Giovanni Barbera.

Saturday's rally marked the second large-scale protest in Rome this month against U.S. military operations in Venezuela, following an earlier one on on Jan 3.

Participants included members of multiple political parties, labor unions and social organizations. The protesters held banners reading "Stop imperialist interference" and "Free Maduro," urging the international community to respect Venezuela's sovereignty and the will of its people, and condemning the U.S. for violating international law.

"We are protesting the way the U.S. handles international politics. Since the events of January 3, we have seen violations of international law, and we are very concerned about how the global situation is developing," said protester Stefano De Angelis.

Organizers said solidarity rallies in support of Venezuela were held in 30 Italian cities on the same day.

Meanwhile, similar protests were also staged in Greece. About 200 people gathered outside the U.S. Embassy in Athens, voicing support for Venezuela and opposition to U.S. military actions.

"We oppose U.S. imperialism and its attack on Venezuela. At the same time, the U.S. is also threatening Cuba, Mexico and Greenland. We must stand up against this behavior," said Greek protester Argiro Sirmakezi.
