Chinese stocks closed lower Thursday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index down 0.16 percent to 3,987.01 points.
The Shenzhen Component Index closed 0.68 percent lower at 14,851.98 points.
The combined turnover of stocks covered by the two indices reached 2.55 trillion yuan (about 374.17 billion U.S. dollars), down from 2.62 trillion yuan on the previous trading day.
In market trading, minor metals, electronic chemicals, and fluorochemicals were among the top gainers, while cinema chains, AI video, and culture and media sectors led the declines.
The ChiNext Index, tracking China's Nasdaq-style board of growth enterprises, dropped 1.13 percent to close at 3,811.25 points.
The STAR Composite Index, which reflects the performance of stocks on China's sci-tech innovation board, closed 1 percent higher at 2,034.3 points.
