China urges US to work together for healthy bilateral trade: spokeswoman

China calls on the United States to work together with it to promote the "sound, stable, and sustainable" development of bilateral economic and trade relations, Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Mao Ning said at a regular press briefing in Beijing on Friday.

Mao made the remarks when asked to comment on the upcoming increased tariffs to be levied by the U.S. on a number of countries.

"I'd refer you to the competent authorities for the details. As a principle, we hope the U.S. side will work in the same direction with China and take concrete actions to uphold and implement the important consensus reached by the two presidents in their phone conversation, jointly promoting the sound, stable, and sustainable development of China-U.S. economic and trade relations," she said.

The central parity rate of the Chinese currency renminbi, or the yuan, strengthened 20 pips to 7.0108 against the U.S. dollar Monday, according to the China Foreign Exchange Trade System.

In China's spot foreign exchange market, the yuan is allowed to rise or fall by 2 percent from the central parity rate each trading day.

The central parity rate of the yuan against the U.S. dollar is based on a weighted average of prices offered by market makers before the opening of the interbank market each business day.
