China is experiencing its most intense heat wave this year, with temperatures exceeding 40 degrees Celsius reported in many regions.

China's Central Meteorological Observatory continued to issue a yellow alert for high temperatures on Sunday, as over two million square kilometers of the country's area are experiencing temperatures exceeding 35 degrees Celsius.

Over the next three days, large-scale, continuous high-temperature weather is expected to persist in several regions, with local temperatures potentially exceeding 40 degrees Celsius.

Shanghai's meteorological observatory upgraded the warning for high temperature from yellow to orange on Saturday morning, as the highest temperature is expected to exceed 37 degrees Celsius. The city has been experiencing such hot weather for 13 consecutive days.

In north China's Shanxi Province, the meteorological observatory issued an orange warning for high temperatures on Friday, which reached a maximum of 39 degrees Celsius.

Local authorities have taken various measures to mitigate its effects in response to the extreme heat.

In Yuncheng City, where temperatures reached 39 degrees Celsius, the local sanitation department intensified road spraying efforts to suppress dust and cool the heat.

Residents in Yangquan City used sun hats and umbrellas to shield themselves from the scorching sunlight and prevent heatstroke. The local sanitation department also deployed additional spraying vehicles to disperse water to cool down the area.

Most parts of central China's Henan Province have been recording temperatures above 37 degrees Celsius since Thursday, with some regions exceeding 40 degrees Celsius.

The province continued to maintain a Level-IV emergency response to high-temperature weather, and several cities have issued red alerts in light of the extreme heat.

China has a four-tier color-coded weather warning system, with red indicating the most severe level, followed by orange, yellow, and blue. The emergency response system has four tiers, with Level I being the most severe.

Protesters filled Mexico City's Paseo de la Reforma on Saturday, rallying in solidarity with Venezuela and denouncing U.S. influence in Latin America.

The United States launched a large-scale military operation against Venezuela in the early hours of Jan 3, taking by force Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores.

Holding numerous flags and banners while chanting slogans intermittently, a huge crowd of protesters criticized U.S. military actions against Venezuela and the unlawful control over President Maduro and his spouse, calling for respect for national sovereignty and regional peace.

"We oppose the U.S. intervention and hegemony towards the countries in Latin America. The United States has flagrantly trampled on international law, bombed Caracas and kidnapped the Maduro couple. The U.S. interventionism has become extremely blatant. We must firmly oppose and be highly vigilant, because this is not only related to a certain country, but also to all countries," said a protester.

"We demand that the United States stop interfering in Venezuela's internal affairs. The country must immediately cease its exploitation and plundering of the countries in Latin America," said another protester.
