South China's Guangdong Province is gearing up for Typhoon Danas which emerged in the South China Sea at 02:00 on Saturday morning, activating a level-IV emergency response to it.
China has a four-tier natural disaster emergency response system, with level I being the highest level and level IV the lowest.
Guangdong has taken precautionary measures to handle the typhoon's intensifying impact on water transport. At 10:00 Saturday, local marine affairs authorities activated a level-III emergency response to a tropical cyclone, while sending warnings to shipping enterprises, wharfs and ships.
Danas is expected to be more and more destructive as it moves toward the southwest of China's Taiwan Island and the northern coast of Fujian Province.
As Danas approaches, Guangdong, Fujian, Zhejiang and Taiwan Island are expected to be hit by strong winds and torrential rains in coastal areas this weekend.
