China's courier sector handled more than 95 billion parcels in the first half of 2025, the State Post Bureau said on Monday.
Total express delivery volume grew 19 percent year over year in the January-June period, according to the bureau.
The sector, powered by major e-commerce platforms, generated an estimated 700 billion yuan (over 97.6 billion U.S. dollars) in revenue in the first six months, up 8.5 percent from the same period last year.
The sector's expansion reflects China's growing consumer spending due to a series of pro-consumption policies rolled out by the government in recent months. The first half of the year saw market entities in the courier sector redouble efforts to comprehensively improve efficiency and services.
Notably, many courier firms expanded their logistics networks in the country's west during the period, which had fueled the rapid growth in revenue and delivery volume in the central and western regions, such as the Xizang Autonomous Region and the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region.
"In the first half of this year, the express delivery volume achieved rapid growth. The industry's ability to serve the expansion of domestic demand and empower the development of the real economy continued to improve. New achievements and breakthroughs were made in ensuring postal demand in the western regions, as the sector plays an increasing role in promoting economic and social development," said Zhu Li, deputy head of the Department of Industrial Economic Research of the State Post Bureau's Development and Research Center, at a press conference in Beijing on Monday.
