The Palestinian death toll in the Gaza Strip has risen to 58,765, with 140,485 injured since the conflict between Hamas and Israel erupted in 2023, Gaza's health authorities said in a statement on Saturday.
Since the Israeli army resumed its military operations in the Gaza Strip on March 18 this year, 7,938 people have been killed and 28,444 injured, the authorities reported.
In the past 48 hours alone, Israeli attacks on the enclave have claimed 98 lives and injured another 511, according to the statement.
The health authorities specified that between early Saturday morning and the afternoon, 70 Palestinians were killed in Israeli attacks, including 36 who had been waiting for aid distribution.
The Strip's Civil Defense Department said on Saturday that the Israeli forces launched attacks around two aid distribution sites in Khan Younis and Rafah, killing 26 Palestinians waiting to receive aid.
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said on the same day that, from Friday night to early Saturday morning, Israeli soldiers spotted Palestinians approaching an aid distribution site in the southern Gaza city of Rafah and took measures such as firing warning shots to deter them from coming closer.
The IDF said it is continuing its investigation into the incident.
