China has made significant strides in streamlining tax payment processes during the 14th Five-Year Plan period (2021-2025), in a bid to enhance the taxpayer experience, said Hu Jinglin, commissioner of the State Taxation Administration, on Monday.
Speaking at a press conference in Beijing, Hu detailed the progress and achievements of China's tax reforms during this period.
"The tax department has implemented a series of measures to simplify, streamline, and ease tax payment processes, resulting in a 50 percent reduction in required tax filing documents and over a 25 percent decrease in the submission of paper materials. Currently, 97 percent of matters related to tax and fee and 99 percent of tax declaration items can be handled online or via mobile devices. In 2024, the World Bank's business environment assessment showed that China has made rapid improvements in tax indicators. Compared to the last assessment in 2019, the annual tax payment time for enterprises in China has been compressed by 78.2 percent, ranking among the top in the world. China has made positive progress in the marketization, rule of law, and internationalization of the tax and business environment," said Hu.
