Rescuers save six trapped people in flood-hit Fuping County

The law enforcement officers saved six people who were trapped by floods in Fuping County in Baoding City of north China's Hebei Province.

From Friday evening to Saturday morning, a heavy rainfall hit Fuping County, with the maximum rainfall reaching 540 millimeters. The rainfall caused the water level on a section of the county seat to rise rapidly, trapping many cars in the flood.

At around 19:00 on Friday, due to the heavy rain, a section of road in Fuping County was severely flooded. Half of a white car was submerged in the water, and the people inside kept crying and screaming.

"The car drifted down. There were three people inside crying for help. At that time, the car door could still be slightly opened and the windows could be rolled down," said Liu Tianming, a law enforcement officer of the Comprehensive Law Enforcement Bureau in Fuping County.

The nearby merchants said there were three people in the car at that time, a father and his daughters. The father carried his younger daughter out first, and the eldest daughter in the car shouted for help in terror. At the time, the water level was still rising. At the critical moment, several urban management officers and local residents rushed into the water one after another. They managed to rescue the girl in the car together.

On the same section of the road, another white car got stuck in the water and the female driver escaped from inside the car. But she stumbled and almost submerged in chest-deep water. When a law enforcement officer discovered her, he immediately waded through the water to come to her rescue and helped her to a safe area.

At around 21:00, another vehicle stalled in the waterlogged area, trapping a couple inside. After a law enforcement officer discovered it, he successfully broke the window to rescue them.

"They risked their lives to save us. Without them, we would have drowned. I'm very grateful to them," said Jian Chunmei, the rescued woman.

From 17:30 on Friday to 06:00 on Saturday, law enforcement officers remained on duty at this section of the road, rescuing three vehicles and saving six trapped people.

Six of the 11 primary The Standard and Poor's 500 sectors closed in negative territory, with materials and communication services leading the declines by dropping 2.27 percent and 1.58 percent, respectively. In contrast, the healthcare sector gained 1.09 percent and the energy sector advanced 1.03 percent.

Market participants are also focusing on Wednesday's upcoming after-hours earnings release from Nvidia.
