Local authorities in Xinglong County of north China's Hebei Province have been evacuating affected residents and carrying out disinfection operations following days of continuous heavy rainfall.
The relocation process was swift, with 757 residents from 15 villages settling into a local school within hours on Saturday.
The resettlement site, with more than 800 beds available, ensured basic living conditions for these evacuated residents.
"Quilts and mattresses were prepared for us. We hadn't eaten when we left home, so we had a meal here first. I felt relieved," said Zhang Cuilian, an evacuee.
To facilitate the proper resettlement of affected residents, local volunteers have stepped up to assist.
"We register people from each village and guide them to dormitories. For those with limited mobility, we arranged convenient dormitories in the afternoon so their families could take care of them," said Si Menyan, a volunteer.
Local authorities have also been actively working to prevent epidemics, with medical staff from local health centers conducting door-to-door surveys and offering timely medical services.
"The medical team arrived and asked about our situation in every room. My elderly grandmother is in that room, and the medical team cared for her and provided her with medicine," said Zhang Xuejia, an evacuee.
Post-disaster epidemic prevention and disinfection efforts are also progressing smoothly. In Zhaobeigou, one of the hardest-hit villages, medical staff have been disinfecting critical areas such as garbage bins and livestock pens.
"The environment will be severely damaged after the flood, and our purpose of disinfection is to eliminate pathogens, cut off the transmission route and ensure the health of the people," said Zhang Guohui, head of the tuberculosis prevention and control section under the Xinglong Disease Control and Prevention Center.
