The export of geographical indication products between China and the European Union (EU) has surged since the beginning of this year, expanding into agricultural products, handicrafts, specialty foods, and other sectors, offering consumers both greater variety and higher-quality options.
China and the EU inked an agreement on geographical indications in 2021, aiming to improve bilateral trade of agri-food products.
With mutual recognition, products such as Bavarian beer and Turpan raisins have passed rigorous quality audits, receiving greater protection across both markets.
"Many people learn about geographical indication products and their craftsmanship, and thereby understand the culture behind them. We will also hold corresponding supporting activities to further enhance everyone's understanding of geographical indications, especially Chinese geographical indication products," said Pan Feng, chairman of the Europe-China Economic Cooperation and Development Council.
Next, relevant institutions from China and Europe will continue to expand mutual recognition lists, give priority to promoting the entry of daily necessities such as tea and wine into each other's markets. And at the same time, they will strengthen the joint construction of standard systems to promote mass consumption.
