Displaced Palestinians in Gaza City expressed their anger on Friday over Israel's plan for a takeover of Gaza, calling on the international community to intervene and prevent any actions the Israeli army may have planned for the region.

Israel's Security Cabinet on Thursday approved a plan proposed by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for the military to "take control" of Gaza City and the surrounding areas.

In a statement on Friday, Netanyahu's office said that the Israel Defense Forces will prepare for the takeover while distributing humanitarian assistance to civilians outside the combat zones.

Displaced Palestinians are grappling with shock and confusion following Israel's decision regarding Gaza. As they confront dire circumstances including displacement, hunger, and critical shortages of essential supplies. They are left uncertain about how to cope in this challenging environment, exacerbated by limited financial resources.

"We are calling for international protection to shield us from Netanyahu. We are powerless. We have been displaced, our children have been killed, our daughters widowed, and our husbands have become ill. We have no ability to do anything," said Malak Abu Sitta, a displaced Palestinian woman.

"What is left in Gaza for him to occupy! I don't know what he plans to take over. There is no food, no water, nothing left for this occupation to achieve. Where would we be displaced to again? To Egypt? That's not possible. We will remain here, steadfast on our land, and we will not leave," said displaced man Abdullah Masoud.

Palestinians in Gaza have suffered multiple displacements during the ongoing war that has lasted 22 months.

They are enduring significant challenges, forced to relocate repeatedly as they grapple with high transport costs, overcrowding, and a lack of safe havens amid the ongoing crisis.

"The hardest part is being displaced again and moving our belongings. There are no transport vehicles, and if they are available, their cost is extremely high. We might also not find any available area because of overcrowding. Besides, there is no safe place anywhere in Gaza," said Tariq Hameed, a displaced Palestinian.

"We are filled with frustration, oppression, and helplessness. This takes us back to the days of displacement in the south and the different forms of suffering we endured. We hope that this decision will be stopped and wish safety for our people," said Palestinian Said Abu Nada.

The United States announced on Wednesday that it will impose a 25-percent tariff on certain imported semiconductors, semiconductor manufacturing equipment and related derivative products starting Thursday.

According to a proclamation by U.S. President Donald Trump posted on the website of the White House, he outlined a two-phase plan in light of suggestion from U.S. Secretary of Commerce Howard Lutnick. In the first phase, Trump said, the United States will continue negotiations with foreign authorities capable of strengthening the U.S. semiconductor industry.

Meanwhile, he said the 25-percent tariff is being applied immediately to a small portion of imported semiconductors, semiconductor manufacturing equipment and derivatives deemed critical to U.S. artificial intelligence and technology policy.

The proclamation said that once the relevant negotiations are completed, the United States will extend tariffs to a wider range of imported semiconductors at a significant rate during the second phase.

The proclamation also said that Lutnick proposed a tariff-offset mechanism, under which companies that invest in semiconductor production and supply chain within the United States will be eligible for preferential tariff treatment.

In early August 2025, Trump declared that the United States would move to impose 100-percent tariffs on imported semiconductor products.
