Robot restaurant, 4S store offer sci-fi movie experiences for visitors in Beijing

A robot-themed restaurant and the world's first 4S store for humanoid robots opened in Beijing's Economic-Technological Development Area, also known as Beijing E-Town, on Friday, captivating visitors with immersive sci-fi movie-like experiences.

The opening of the two venues coincides with the start of the 2025 World Robot Conference in Beijing, showcasing new consumption scenarios for the application of robots in daily life.

The robot-themed restaurant offers visitors the chance to dine and shop in a fully automated and AI-driven environment.

Upon entering, guests are greeted by humanoid robot bartenders and entertained by a robot band.

During meals, diners can interact with dinosaur robots, while delivery and recycling robots move efficiently through the space. Robots also prepare pancakes, coffee, and milk tea on demand.

"I think it's very technological and novel -- a really good experiment," said Ding Wenjun, a visitor.

Meanwhile, the "4S store", dubbed as Robot Mall, marks a significant step in the commercialization of advanced robotics in China.

Following the automobile industry's 4S model -- sales, service, spare parts, and surveys -- the store offers sales, maintenance, parts, and information services for robotics and its operators.

Spanning 4,000 square meters, the 4S store provides services for various robot types used in industrial handling, sorting, medical surgery, pharmacy sorting, and other tasks.

Cultural and creative products, including robot-themed fridge magnets, water cups, handbags, and dolls, are also sold in the store.

"The discounts are generous, and the overall consumption situation is good," said Li Doming, director of the Commerce and Finance Bureau of Beijing E-Town.

Running from August 8 to 12 in Beijing E-Town, the 2025 edition of the conference is being held under the theme "Making Robots Smarter, Making Embodied Agents More Intelligent."

China on Friday sent a sea-launched rocket from the waters near the eastern province of Shandong, placing a group of satellites into planned orbit.

The commercial rocket, CERES-1 Y7, blasted off at 04:10 (Beijing Time), carrying the satellites belonging to the Tianqi constellation. The Taiyuan Satellite Launch Center conducted this offshore mission.
