China's summer movie season, running from June 1 to Aug 31, is heating up with a diverse array of films appealing to a wide range of audience preferences.

The season features a luxurious lineup of films, ranging from crime thrillers and historical dramas to animated fantasies and Hollywood imports.

Chinese films this season explore a wide range of genres, including feature film, documentary, comedy and animation, catering to the increasingly diverse tastes of moviegoers.

"I have watched 'The Stage', 'The Lychee Road' and 'Dead to Rights', and none of them has let me down," said a moviegoer in Beijing.

As these films resonate with Chinese audiences through intricate plots and captivating themes, cinema attendance and the number of moviegoers have been on the rise.

"Using two-dimensional animation and an ink painting style, we hope to forge our own path with characters that may not be traditionally attractive, embracing an ugly yet cute aesthetic," said Yu Shui, director of the animated film "Nobody".

"Entertainment is the minimum expectation for a film, so in the creation of 'Dead To Rights', we ensure a tightly woven plot where storylines connect with one another without a pause. We've also integrated a lot of Chinese-style expressions into the film," said Zhang Ke, screenwriter of Nanjing Massacre film "Dead To Rights".

"The underwater filming lasted for more than 70 days, with over 10 hours spent underwater every day. It was really difficult. Looking back, I'm not sure how I managed it," said Zhu Yilong, an actor from the historical drama "Dongji Island".

Nearly 150 films are set to be released this summer, including nearly 50 feature films and over 30 animated ones.

Leading the charts is "Dead To Rights", followed by "The Lychee Road" and Universal's "Jurassic World Rebirth".
