A German student studying in China has shared his insight into the country's unique development path, sharing his firsthand experiences that are a far cry from common Western narratives.

Christian Wagner, a PhD Candidate at China's prestigious Peking University, spoke recently on a talk show of China Global Television Network (CGTN). He expressed admiration for the "completely unique path" China has been following in the past decades, which he believes has led the Communist Party of China (CPC) to achieve its poverty alleviation feat.

"First, China has taken a completely unique path of its development, something unprecedented in the whole human history and difficult to comprehend when drawing comparison with other countries. Whether it is, from then until today, the Mao Zedong Thought, the Deng Xiaoping Theory, or Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, China's system has constantly evolved. What makes this path particularly remarkable is the 'Two Integrations': to integrate the basic tenets of Marxism with China's specific realities with its traditional culture. Every domestic and international development required an adjustment to the entire system. And China has just done this with its socialism constantly evolving," said Wagner.

"Second, under the leadership of the Communist Party of China, nearly 800 million people have been lifted out of poverty. How is such a huge project possible? In theory, CPC guidelines specify that local governments, enterprises and people from all walks of life should work together to achieve this goal under the leadership of the Party. But in practice, I had the opportunity to witness these efforts firsthand during a rural field visit in China. There, I saw what poverty alleviation truly means: Farmers got new jobs, social security, housing, and local infrastructure. Socialism in China is a unique, evolving system that adapts to meet the needs of its people. And recognizing this, respecting this and even supporting this, helps us to see beyond stereotypes and understand China's real progress," he said.

A spokesperson for the International Maritime Organization (IMO) said on Monday that the situation in waters near the Strait of Hormuz remains volatile, urging vessels in the area to take maximum caution.

"The situation continues to be volatile. Ships should take maximum caution and not take risks without security guarantees," the spokesperson said in a statement.

According to the information released on the IMO website, as of April 19, a total of 24 attacks on ships in the affected waters had been confirmed, resulting in the deaths of 10 seafarers.

The IMO, the United Nations specialized agency responsible for maritime safety and security, as well as the prevention of marine and atmospheric pollution by ships, has called for de-escalation, dialogue, and multilateral cooperation regarding the situation in the Strait of Hormuz.

Meanwhile, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmail Baghaei said on Monday that with the U.S. repeatedly violating ceasefire deals and posing threats to Iran’s ports and vessels, a unilateral return to normal shipping remains out of reach.

Also on Monday, the U.S. Central Command claimed in a social media post that the U.S. forces have directed 27 vessels to turn around or return to Iranian ports since its blockade on navigation through the Strait starting April 13.

However, according to a report released from Lloyd's List on Monday, at least 26 vessels involved in Iranian shipping had managed to break through the U.S. blockade.
