Tianjin Municipality in the north has strengthened economic and trade exchanges with the Shanghai Cooperation Organization member countries, actively expanding its international cooperation space.

The total import and export volume between Tianjin and SCO countries reached 12.5 billion U.S. dollars in 2024, marking a year-on-year increase of 21.9 percent, according to the Tianjin Municipal Commerce Bureau.

Tianjin's cumulative investment in SCO countries totaled 2.43 billion U.S. dollars by the end of 2024. And the completed turnover from Tianjin's contracted overseas projects in SCO countries amounted to 2.37 billion U.S. dollars last year.

According to the Tianjin Customs, local enterprises exported 276,000 electric motorcycles and bicycles to SCO member states, observer nations, and dialog partners in the first half of 2025. This figure marks an increase of 77.3 percent from the same period last year.

Of these, SCO member states accounted for 221,000 units, surging by 89 percent year on year.

And going beyond commerce, education has emerged as another pillar of international cooperation. The Luban Workshop, spearheaded from Tianjin, is an international vocational education project that has established schools in more than 30 countries.

So far, Tianjin has established 10 Luban Workshops in SCO countries, offering training in robotics, new energy, and the Internet of Things.

These workshops have extended practical skills to tens of thousands of young people, helping them find jobs and contribute to local development.

The port city is now getting ready to host the largest-ever SCO Summit from Aug 31 to Sept 1, with leaders from more than 20 countries and heads of 10 international organizations set to attend.
