China welcomes Kim Jong Un, top leader of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK), to attend China's V-Day commemorations on Sept. 3, Assistant Foreign Minister Hong Lei said at a press conference on Thursday in Beijing.
"China and the DPRK are friendly neighbors connected by mountains and rivers. We warmly welcome General Secretary Kim Jong Un to come to China to attend the V-Day commemorations to mark the 80th anniversary of the victory in the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War," said Hong.
China will stage a grand military parade on Sept. 3 for V-Day commemorations.
Kim is among the 26 foreign leaders to attend China's V-Day commemorations in Beijing, according to the Foreign Ministry.
"This year marks the 80th anniversary of the victory in the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War, and also the 80th anniversary of the Korean Peninsula's liberation from Japan's 1910-45 colonial rule. In the strenuous times of war, the people of the two countries supported each other and jointly fought against Japanese aggression, making important contributions to the World Anti-Fascist War and the victory of the just cause of humanity," said Hong.
"Maintaining, consolidating and developing the traditional friendship between China and the DPRK is the firm position of the Communist Party of China (CPC) and the Chinese government. China stands ready to work with the DPRK to continue strengthening exchanges and cooperation and advancing socialist development. China is ready to work with the DPRK to enhance coordination on promoting regional peace and stability and safeguarding international fairness and justice, and continue writing a new chapter in building the traditional friendship between the two countries," he said.
