Foreign dignitaries praised China’s historic sacrifices and lasting contributions to global peace as the country commemorated the 80th anniversary of victory in the World Anti-Fascist War and the Chinese People’s War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression.
A solemn gathering was held Wednesday at Beijing’s Tian’anmen Square, featuring a grand military parade and a keynote speech by President Xi Jinping, who emphasized the importance of equality, peace, and mutual support.
Observing the events remotely, officials from around the world reflected on this pivotal chapter in history, recognizing China’s vital role in securing victory and its enduring commitment to global security.
"As a historian, I would like to stress the great contribution made by Chinese people to the world anti-fascist struggle. The Chinese people made immortal contributions to the defeat of the Axis powers. I think that the anti-fascist struggle must vindicate the heroic Chinese people in a special place," said Honduran Minister of Education Daniel Esponda.
"This parade demonstrates China's powerful national strength, displaying a diverse range of high-quality equipment. This parade is worth watching and should be seen. From it, one can see China's military strength and also feel the spirit of the Chinese army and people," said Fedor Smuglin, a Russian Navy veteran.
"Chinese people and as I have said, they have lost millions to get this victory. We are very happy that countries like China understand where the evil is and where the good is," said Denis Gonchar, Russian Ambassador to Belgium.
"China seeks cooperation and not confrontation. China seeks peace and not wars. It [was] the imposing of the will of powerful countries [on] weaker countries [which saw] the [rising] role of China in the anti-fascist effort during the Second World War.This was and is significant," said Stefanos Stefanou, secretary-general of the Progressive Party of Working People of Cyprus.
"In the military parade at the ceremony marking the victory in the World Anti-Fascist War, we witnessed a magnificent march of Chinese army, a very important assurance of the world," said Ozgur Bursali, secretary-general of Türkiye's Vatan Party.
