Officials and experts across the world hailed China's V-Day commemorations and President Xi Jinping's speech, noting that the event reflects the country's commitment to peace and development.
On Wednesday, China held a grand gathering commemorating the 80th anniversary of the victory in the Chinese People's War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War. The occasion featured a grand military parade, attended by some international friends who made contributions to China's victory in the war, or their family representatives.
The military parade demonstrated China's significant development achievements and its determination and confidence to adhere to the path of peaceful development while upholding international fairness and justice, said Ivan Melnikov, First Vice-Chairman of the Russian State Duma and Chairman of the Russia-China Friendship Association, in an interview with China Media Group (CMG).
"I eagerly anticipated and watched today's military parade in Beijing. Of course, the modernization of the Chinese military and the strength it displayed filled the Chinese people with pride. I noted that the Chinese leader mentioned in his speech the critical choice humanity faces between dialogue and confrontation. I believe that the leaders of the countries at the parade all endorse the path of cooperation based on equality and fairness," he said.
In his speech before the parade, Xi noted that the Chinese people made a major contribution to the salvation of human civilization and the defense of world peace with immense sacrifice in the war. He also called on nations to "eliminate the root cause of war and prevent historical tragedies from recurring."
Russian scholars noted that the speech addresses the current problems and focuses on the future.
"The Chinese leader focuses on the future. [When addressing the gathering,] he mentioned the challenges humanity currently faces, the direction for progress, and how to build a bright future of peace, prosperity and development," said Alexander Lomanov, doctor of history in the Institute of World Economy and International Relations, Russian Academy of Sciences.
"China demonstrated its military strength and its firm resolve to defend its independence and sovereignty, as well as its increasing role in the global development agenda. In his speech, President Xi Jinping expressed gratitude to the countries that supported and helped the Chinese people in resisting aggression. At the same time, his speech also looks forward to the future," said Boris Gorbachev, a leading researcher at the Institute of China and Modern Asia, Russian Academy of Sciences.
Xi's speech highlights the importance of global cooperation in promoting security and development, a message that international experts believe deserves humanity's consideration.
"Under the guidance of President Xi Jinping's global initiatives, China has consistently signaled its commitment to shared progress on the world stage. President Xi proposed the idea of working together to build a community with a shared future for humanity, which encompasses civilization, security and development. Today's speech from President Xi also conveyed these vital messages," said Balmukunda Regmi, a Nepali international affairs expert.
"His message underscores the importance of working together for the sake of humanity to build a shared future and advance global peace and security. I will say that if the world joins China in the initiative of President Xi, of course everywhere will be peace, safety, security and the economic development. So it's very important if we all join hands together. And I think this is the right time that we should all take it seriously and consider what's President Xi has said today," said Ashraf Siddiqui, head and chief editor of Asian Telegraph Qatar, a news platform.
