The first shipment of emergency humanitarian relief supplies provided by the Chinese government to Afghanistan arrived in its capital Kabul on Sunday.

The relief supplies, comprising primarily tents and blankets, were transported by two Y-20 transport aircraft of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) Air Force.

A 6.1-magnitude earthquake struck eastern Afghanistan on Aug. 31, killing 2,205 people and injuring 3,640 others, according to the latest report from the Afghan Red Crescent Society.

Rescue operations remain underway amid reports that many people are still trapped beneath the rubble of collapsed homes, the organization said.

China on Friday sent a sea-launched rocket from the waters near the eastern province of Shandong, placing a group of satellites into planned orbit.

The commercial rocket, CERES-1 Y7, blasted off at 04:10 (Beijing Time), carrying the satellites belonging to the Tianqi constellation. The Taiyuan Satellite Launch Center conducted this offshore mission.
