The just-concluded Chengdu Motor Show 2025 held in the capital of southwest China's Sichuan Province featured a wide range of cutting-edge technologies from leading auto companies around the world, shedding light on the emerging trend of the global auto industry.

Opened on Aug 29, the 10-day exhibition gathered nearly 120 brands and showcased over 1,600 cars. Covering 220,000 square meters, its venue had 12 exhibition halls and outdoor exhibition areas.

Chinese electric vehicle (EV) makers brought their latest products to the event, where their innovations were warmly welcomed by customers.

"This is the first public appearance of the Xiaomi SU7 Ultra Nurburgring Limited Edition. Of the 100 units planned, 10 have gone on sale and they've already sold out," said Li Siyang, a salesman from Chinese tech giant Xiaomi.

Xiaomi entered the electric vehicle market in 2021. Since March 2024, Xiaomi has delivered over 250,000 vehicles, quickly emerging as a key player in China's rapidly growing new energy vehicle market by leveraging advanced smart manufacturing and a favorable policy environment to fuel its rapid ascent.

As China's auto makers shift their focus from fast growth to high-quality development, cutting-edge technologies took the center stage at the motor show.

Leaders from the auto companies at the event said that by adopting more advanced technologies, they believe their products will finally stand out and win the favor of customers.

"Incorporating technologies like CATL's Xiaoyao dual-core battery and BYD's megawatt fast-charging will win you customers. We believe the future lies not in a price war, but in a value war," said Gary Liu, managing director at the Hannover Milano Fairs China Limited.

Some exhibitors are also worried about the increasingly fierce competition among auto companies, saying if the competition would be healthier, the sector will develop better.

"I feel lucky that we have such a vast market and it's still growing. However, if the competition can become more sustainable and healthy in the long term, it would be even better," said Qin Lihong, co-founder and president of smart EV maker Nio.
