China's e-commerce logistics index, an indicator of logistics operations in the e-commerce sector, rose 0.3 points from a month earlier to 112.3 points in August, setting a new high for the year, industry data showed.
Specifically, the sub-index tracking total business volume in the sector went up 0.5 points month on month to 131 points, according to the China Federation of Logistics and Purchasing (CFLP).
"This shows that domestic consumption willingness has continued to increase since August, and e-commerce platforms have boosted the convenience of consumption," said Liu Yuhang, director of the China Logistics Information Center.
In August, as extreme weather events gradually decreased across China, logistics companies saw a significant improvement in service quality, with the satisfaction index and fulfillment index rising by 0.4 and 0.5 points, respectively.
Furthermore, the continued increase in business volume boosted demand for labor, with the personnel index growing by 0.5 points month on month, reaching a new high for the year.
Data from major e-commerce platforms showed that overall e-commerce sales and promotion activity increased significantly in August compared with July, demonstrating the growing effects of consumer stimulus policies.
As summer is drawing to an end, new autumn clothes hit the market, sparking a sales boom.
Furthermore, a large number of marathon events are held across the country, which has driven up online demand for sportswear, footwear, professional wearables, and health and rehabilitation products.
Experts attributed the demand growth partly to pro-consumption programs.
"Policies promoting trade-ins and diversifying consumption scenarios are gradually taking effect, creating new growth drivers for e-commerce logistics demand. This is why the total e-commerce business volume index continues to hit new highs," said Liu.
The CFLP said that the figure tracking business volume in rural areas has continued to rise since February.
In August, the rural e-commerce logistics business volume index reached 131.7 points, registering a 0.2-point growth from the previous month and also a new high for the year.
The rural business volume indexes tracking central and western regions came in higher than the national average.
In the first eight months of this year, 152 new international air cargo routes were opened nationwide, adding over 300 round-trip flights per week.
Major exports included cross-border e-commerce goods, high-end manufacturing goods, high-value-added goods, and electronic products.
