A concert celebrating a century of iconic film scores brought East and West together in Chengdu, the capital of southwest China’s Sichuan Province, on Thursday.
Titled "A Century of Sound and Shadow," the concert was a prelude to the Golden Panda Awards that is being held from Friday to Saturday in the city.
The concert used the power of symphonic music to bring timeless film melodies to life, featuring scores from classics such as "The Sound of Music," "Titanic," and "Journey to the West."
The performances also seamlessly integrated diverse artistic expressions, ranging from solo vocals and Peking opera to children’s choir and traditional instruments, crafting a rich, emotionally resonant tapestry on stage.
Audiences were treated to a mesmerizing audio-visual experience that transcended time and space, harmoniously blending Eastern and Western cultural traditions.
"The audience were taken on a trip down the memory lane with the classic scores played. It was an amazing performance," said Gao Yan, who attended the performance.
"It was very powerful. Many of the film scores brought back vivid memories of the scenes, which were quite moving. In particular, the concert included classic songs from the screen adaptations of four classics of Chinese literature. These are some of the shared memories of the Chinese people. I was very moved," said He Xin, another member of the audience.
Launched in 2023, the Golden Panda Awards quickly gained international recognition as an event fostering global dialogue and exchange in film and culture.
