Chinese Vice Premier He Lifeng's upcoming visit to Switzerland is expected to further advance the innovative strategic partnership between the two countries, Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesman Guo Jiakun said at a regular press briefing in Beijing on Friday.

He, also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, is invited by the World Economic Forum and the government of the Swiss Confederation, Guo said.

"During his visit to Switzerland, Vice Premier He Lifeng will meet with Guy Parmelin, president of the Swiss Confederation and head of the Federal Department of Economic Affairs, Education and Research. Over the recent years, thanks to the joint efforts from both sides, the development of China-Switzerland relations have achieved comprehensive enhancement, with continuous new results in practical cooperation. Negotiations to upgrade the China-Switzerland Free Trade Agreement are progressing steadily, and both countries have jointly voiced support for multilateralism and the reform and improvement of global governance. The year 2026 marks the 10th anniversary of the establishment of the China-Switzerland innovative strategic partnership and is also the first year of China's 15th Five-Year Plan (2026-2030). China-Switzerland cooperation faces new opportunities. Vice Premier He Lifeng's visit will help both sides further expand cooperation areas and promote more mutually beneficial outcomes in the China-Switzerland innovative strategic partnership," Guo said.
