China firmly opposes countries having diplomatic relations with it negotiating and signing any agreement with its Taiwan region that carries sovereign implications and is of an official nature, Foreign Ministry spokesman Guo Jiakun said at a press briefing in Beijing on Friday.
Guo made the remarks in response to media reports saying that the United States Commerce Department has made a statement claiming reaching so-called "trade deal" with China's Taiwan region.
"We always firmly oppose countries having diplomatic relations with China negotiating and signing any agreement with China's Taiwan region that carries sovereign implications and is of an official nature. The United States should earnestly abide by the one-China principle and the three China-U.S. joint communiques," said Guo.
