U.S. dollar ticks up

The U.S. dollar climbed in late trading on Wednesday.

The dollar index, which measures the greenback against six major peers, added 0.63 percent to 97.873 at 15:00. (1900 GMT).

In late New York trading, the euro was down to 1.1737 dollars from 1.1811 dollars in the previous session, and the British pound decreased to 1.3449 dollars from 1.3517 dollars in the previous session.

The U.S. dollar bought 148.84 Japanese yen, higher than 147.59 Japanese yen in the previous session. The U.S. dollar was up to 0.7954 Swiss francs from 0.7916 Swiss francs, and it climbed to 1.3904 Canadian dollars from 1.3850 Canadian dollars. The U.S. dollar added to 9.4078 Swedish kronor from 9.3328 Swedish kronor.

The death toll in the war-torn Gaza Strip has risen to 71,455 since the conflict between Hamas and Israel erupted on Oct 7, 2023, with the number of injuries reaching 171,347, Gaza's health authorities said on Friday.

In the past 24 hours, hospitals in Gaza received 14 more bodies, including 12 new deaths and two bodies recovered from the rubble, in addition to 18 new injuries as of 11:00 on Friday, the authorities said.

Since the ceasefire agreement took effect on Oct 11, 2025, Israeli attacks have killed 463 people and wounded 1,269 others, according to the Gaza health authorities.
