Trade between China and the five Nordic countries reached 53.17 billion U.S. dollars in 2024, marking an 8.5 percent year-on-year increase, China's Ministry of Commerce said on Monday.
The growth rate significantly outpaced China's overall trade with the European Union, which recorded a modest 0.4-percent increase to 785.8 billion U.S. dollars in 2024, according to customs data.
From January to August this year, trade between China and the five Nordic countries totaled 37.96 billion U.S. dollars, up 7.1 percent compared to the same period of last year. This growth rate is more than double that of China-EU trade during the same period.
To date, the cumulative foreign direct investment from Nordic countries in China has surpassed 15 billion U.S. dollars, demonstrating their strong and sustained confidence in the Chinese market.
"Sweden and Denmark have each invested over 5 billion U.S. dollars in China, ranking them among the top European investors. Companies from the Nordic countries have remained broadly optimistic about China's economic prospects and are attracted by the potential of its ultra-large market," said Wang Yupeng, deputy director of the Department of European Affairs of the Ministry of Commerce.
