Pro-Palestinian demonstrators gathered outside the White House on Monday to protest President Donald Trump's 20-point Gaza peace plan, decrying it as a mere political trick.
The protest was sparked by talks between Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu the same day.
In a joint press conference after their talks at the White House, Trump said Netanyahu had agreed to the plan aimed at ending the conflict in Gaza. He also called on Hamas to accept the terms of the peace proposal, vowing that if Hamas does not accept the plan, the United States will provide its "full backing" to Israel.
Critics noted that the plan fails to commit to the establishment of a Palestinian state and lacks clarity on when authority would be transferred to a self-governing body in the strip.
Demonstrators waved Palestinian flags and voiced their skepticism about Trump's intentions, saying they do not believe Trump would help establish a Palestinian state. They remained defiant despite a police presence, amplifying their voice with loudspeakers to attract attention.
"We're here because Benjamin Netanyahu is currently meeting with President Trump, and we are here to say that American citizens do not consent to our tax dollars being used to fund a genocide," said a paricipant.
"We think that what we need right now is to stop arming Israel, right? Our tax dollars are still being used to fund weapons that kill innocent Palestinians in Gaza," he added.
Another expressed concerns about the implications of the plan.
"This has been our genocide from the beginning. Without our diplomatic cover, without our tax dollars, without our weapons provided by both the Biden and Trump administrations, this genocide would have ended the first day. I think it's going to be another trick by Trump and Netanyahu. I don't think Hamas or any Palestinian would go for it," he said.
