China's logistics industry prosperity index, an index tracking prosperity of the country's logistics market, rose to its highest level in nearly six months in September, the China Federation of Logistics and Purchasing (CFLP) said in an industry report on Saturday.
The logistics prosperity index climbed to 51.2 in September, up 0.3 percentage points from the previous month, indicating continued expansion in the sector.
Sub-indices showed that the overall demand for logistics service remain expanded and that the new orders index accelerated expansion in the expansion range. The new orders indices in railway, road, air transport, multimodal logistics, and express delivery, all saw a month-on-month increase of more than 0.5 percentage points.
"The logistics industry prosperity index showed a month-on-month rebound in September and a faster pace of growth. Logistics demand remained strong. Consumer spending -- those related to tourism, holidays, and travel, as well as product upgrades driven by policy support -- showed a steady growth," said Liu Yuhang, director of the China Logistics Information Center.
Following the end of summer, the start of a new school semester and the travel season boosted consumer logistics activity.
Online shopping for items such as cold-chain fresh food, electronics, outdoor gear, beauty products, and apparel maintained the momentum, leading to the business volume index of express delivery reaching 70.1, significantly above the industry average, according to the report.
Industrial logistics also showed robust growth, with rising demand from sectors such as energy transport, electronic components, pharmaceuticals, telecom equipment, and durable consumer goods such as home appliances.
Meanwhile, the demand for air cargo business grew rapidly, with bellyhold capacity remaining high, the report said.
