U.S. dollar ticks down

The U.S. dollar weakened in late trading on Friday.

The dollar index, which measures the greenback against six major peers, decreased by 0.56 percent to 98.977 at 15:00 (1900 GMT).

In late New York trading, the euro rose to 1.1609 U.S. dollars from 1.1547 dollars in the previous session, and the British pound climbed to 1.3346 dollars from 1.3281 dollars in the previous session.

The U.S. dollar bought 151.72 Japanese yen, lower than 153.18 Japanese yen of the previous session. The U.S. dollar was down to 0.8013 Swiss francs from 0.8074 Swiss francs, and it declined to 1.4000 Canadian dollars from 1.4031 Canadian dollars. The U.S. dollar decreased to 9.5216 Swedish kronor from 9.5587 Swedish kronor.

The death toll in the war-torn Gaza Strip has risen to 71,455 since the conflict between Hamas and Israel erupted on Oct 7, 2023, with the number of injuries reaching 171,347, Gaza's health authorities said on Friday.

In the past 24 hours, hospitals in Gaza received 14 more bodies, including 12 new deaths and two bodies recovered from the rubble, in addition to 18 new injuries as of 11:00 on Friday, the authorities said.

Since the ceasefire agreement took effect on Oct 11, 2025, Israeli attacks have killed 463 people and wounded 1,269 others, according to the Gaza health authorities.
