China's commerce ministry urges U.S. to show sincerity for trade talks

China's Ministry of Commerce on Tuesday urged the U.S. side to correct its wrongdoings as soon as possible, demonstrate sincerity in trade discussions, and work with China to meet each other halfway.

A spokesperson for the ministry commented on the U.S. claim that China had postponed a suggested phone call to discuss its recent rare earth export controls and a U.S. suggestion that the two sides should find a way to restore a stable situation.

The spokesperson said China has noticed the relevant situation.

Recently, China has stated its position on the U.S. threats to impose 100 percent tariffs and other restrictive measures against China.

The spokesperson reiterated that export control measures on rare earths and related items are legitimate practices undertaken by the Chinese government in accordance with laws and regulations to improve its own export control system.

As a responsible major country, China has always firmly safeguarded its national security and international common security. China's export controls do not prohibit exports.

Applications that meet the requirements will continue to be approved as before, jointly maintaining the security and stability of the global industrial and supply chains.

The spokesperson said China had already notified the U.S. side, through the bilateral export control dialog mechanism, ahead of its announcement of the relevant export control measures.

In contrast, the U.S. has long generalized national security concerns, abused export controls, and adopted discriminatory practices against China.

Since the talks on economic and trade issues in Madrid between China and the U.S., the U.S. has continuously introduced a series of new restrictive measures against China, severely damaging China's interests and undermining the atmosphere for bilateral economic and trade talks. China firmly opposes these actions, said the spokesperson.

Regarding tariff and trade wars, China's position remains consistent: if the U.S. is determined to fight a tariff and trade war, China's response will continue to the end; if the U.S. chooses to negotiate, China's door remains open, said the spokesperson.

China and the U.S. share broad common interests and a vast room for cooperation. Cooperation benefits both sides, while confrontation harms all. The past four rounds of economic and trade consultations have fully demonstrated that China and the U.S. can find solutions to problems based on mutual respect and consultations on an equal footing.

The spokesperson said the two sides have maintained communication under the framework of the China-U.S. economic and trade consultation mechanism and had held working-level talks as recently as Monday.

"The U.S. side cannot seek talks on one hand while threatening to introduce new restrictive measures on the other. This is not the right way to get along with China," the spokesperson added.

China urges the U.S. to correct its wrong actions promptly, show sincerity in negotiations, and work with China in the same direction.

Guided by the important consensus reached during the phone call of the heads of state, both sides should safeguard the hard-won negotiation outcomes, continue to leverage the China-U.S. economic and trade consultation mechanism, address each other's concerns through dialogue and consultation, properly manage differences, and promote the healthy, stable, and sustainable development of China-U.S. economic and trade relations.

China opposes the use or threat of force in international relations, opposes imposing one's own will on others, and opposes a return of the world to the "law of the jungle," Foreign Minister Wang Yi said during a phone conversation with Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi on Thursday.

During the call, Araghchi briefed Wang on the latest developments in Iran, saying the recent unrest was incited by external forces and that the situation has now returned to stability.

Saying that Iran has made preparations to respond to external interference while keeping the door wide open to dialog, Araghchi expressed hope that China would play a greater role in promoting regional peace and stability.

Wang, also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, said that China consistently upholds the purposes and principles of the UN Charter and international law, opposes the use or threat of force in international relations, opposes imposing one's own will on others, and opposes a return of the world to the "law of the jungle."

He said that the Chinese side believes the Iranian government and people will stay united, overcome difficulties, maintain national stability, and safeguard their legitimate rights and interests.

Wang also called on all parties to cherish peace, exercise restraint, and resolve differences through dialog, adding that China is willing to play a constructive role in this regard.
