The Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) will continue to enhance its real combat capabilities in countering separatist activities and foreign interference, a military spokesperson said on Friday.
Zhang Xiaogang, spokesman for the Ministry of National Defense, made the remarks when slamming Taiwan leader Lai Ching-te, who recently clamored for increasing the so-called Taiwan's defense budget and "winning peace through strength."
"Lai Ching-te's remarks distort historical facts and international law, peddling the tired old fallacy of Taiwan secession. By resorting to various tactics to curry favor with foreign powers while deceiving the Taiwanese people, he stirs up confrontation across the Taiwan Strait. This once again confirms his nature as a sheer peace saboteur and troublemaker, exposing his sinister intent to sell out, harm, and destroy Taiwan. We solemnly warn the Democratic Progressive Party authorities: seeking secession by relying on external forces is doomed to fail, and resisting reunification by force is a dead-end road. The PLA remains an invincible force defending national reunification. We will continue to enhance our combat capabilities against secession and foreign interference, resolutely safeguard national sovereignty and territorial integrity, and maintain peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait," said Zhang.
