The four mediators of the Gaza conflict had assessed the implementation of the first phase of a peace deal reached between Hamas and Israel and exchanged views on laying out a roadmap for the deal's next phase, said Turkish foreign ministry on Saturday.
In a statement published on social media, Turkish Foreign Ministry spokesman Oncu Keceli said Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, along with representatives from the United States, Qatar, and Egypt, assessed the implementation of the first phase of the Gaza peace deal and exchanged views on the path forward for the next phase during their gathering in Miami on Friday.
Regarding the second phase, the mediators discussed arrangements aimed at ensuring that Gaza is governed by the people of Gaza, as well as steps to be taken regarding the Board of Peace and the International Stabilization Force envisaged in the peace plan, according to Turkish Foreign Ministry's statement.
Fidan briefed the media on Saturday that the meeting was productive, with discussions taking place on multiple platforms and in different settings, continuing late into the night.
However, continuous violations, especially on the Israeli side, have made the peace process exceptionally difficult, jeopardizing the peace plan while posing a serious risk to the second-phase transition, according to Fidan.
Fedan stated that all parties had reached a consensus on this issue and had held numerous discussions on how to prevent such incidents from recurring.
Fedan also noted that a preliminary research report on the reconstruction of Gaza was submitted at the meeting, and preliminary discussions were held within this framework.
Türkiye's National Intelligence Organization Director Ibrahim Kalin also met with Hamas Political Bureau member and chief negotiator Khalil al-Hayya in Istanbul on Saturday to discuss implementation of the Gaza ceasefire agreement, Ankara-based Anadolu Agency reported.
The meeting focused on Türkiye's role as a guarantor and its efforts to ensure the ceasefire holds. The two sides also discussed conditions for moving to the second phase of the Gaza peace plan, including steps to resolve outstanding issues and advance negotiations, the report said.
Both sides reaffirmed their support for Palestinian national reconciliation and the goal of establishing an independent Palestinian state, according to the sources.
