US outlines 5 conditions in response to Iran's proposal: media

The United States has outlined five conditions in response to the latest peace proposal from Iran, Iran's semi-official Fars news agency reported Sunday, citing an informed source.

According to the report, the conditions include the United States refusing to pay any compensation or war damages, Iran transferring 400 kilograms of enriched uranium to the U.S., and Iran being allowed to keep only one nuclear facility operational.

The report added that Washington also rejected unfreezing Iranian assets, while ceasefires on various fronts would be conditional on the start of negotiations.

There has been no official response from either Iran or the United States regarding the report.

Fars, citing analysts, said the U.S. proposal was not aimed at resolving disputes, but rather at achieving through negotiations the political and military objectives that had not been accomplished during the conflict.

Fars reported on Tuesday that Iran had set five preconditions for a second round of talks with the U.S., including an end to hostilities on all fronts, particularly in Lebanon; the lifting of sanctions; the release of frozen Iranian assets; compensation for war damage; and recognition of Iran’s sovereignty over the Strait of Hormuz.

Iran and the United States agreed to a ceasefire on April 8 after 40 days of fighting that began with U.S. and Israeli strikes on Tehran and other Iranian cities on Feb 28. Iranian and U.S. delegations later held a round of talks in Islamabad on April 11 and 12 but failed to reach an agreement.

The two sides have exchanged several draft proposals through Pakistan in recent weeks as part of efforts to end the conflict.
