Chinese Vice Premier Ding Xuexiang will attend the upcoming 2025 United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP30) in Belem, Brazil, at the invitation of Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, Foreign Ministry Spokesman Guo Jiakun said at a regular press briefing in Beijing on Friday.
Ding will attend the climate gathering on Nov 6 as President Xi Jinping's special representative, Guo said.
"This year marks the 10th anniversary of the Paris Agreement and the year for submitting a new round of Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs), representing a crucial moment in global climate governance. Since the beginning of the year, President Xi Jinping has delivered important speeches at two climate summits co-hosted by U.N. Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, where he announced China's new round of NDCs. This highlights China's leading role in climate governance and its image as a responsible major country," said Guo.
"China is committed to contributing its achievements and solutions to inject stronger confidence and impetus into global climate governance. We hope to work with all parties to uphold multilateralism, strengthen unity and cooperation, and promote a global transition to a green and low-carbon future, ultimately creating a clean and beautiful world. We extend our best wishes for the full success of this conference, which we hope will leave a 'Brazilian imprint' on the world and serve as a major milestone in addressing global climate change," he said.
