A Chinese representative stressed respecting the sovereignty of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) and addressing disputes through dialogue at a United Nations Security Council meeting held in New York City on Friday, where a resolution was adopted to renew the mandate of a European Union-led stabilization force.

The 15-member council unanimously adopted Resolution 2795, which re-authorizes European Union Force Althea (EUFOR ALTHEA) and the NATO presence in Bosnia and Herzegovina for a further period of 12 months, starting from the date of the adoption of the resolution.

Geng Shuang, China's deputy permanent representative to UN, said the political disputes triggered by the judicial process against former President of Republika Srpska Milorad Dodik continues, further intensifying tensions among all ethnic groups.

China is deeply concerned about the development of the situation and believes that the tensions are not in the interest of any party in Bosnia and Herzegovina, he said.

Geng underscored respecting the national sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity of Bosnia and Herzegovina and calling on all the ethnic groups in the country to address disputes through constructive dialogue.

"We encourage the three major ethnic groups in Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) to continue dialogue and consultation with the goal of promoting national development and enhancing the well-being of the people, and to jointly uphold the country's political and social stability. China appreciates the constructive role played by regional countries like Serbia and Croatia in maintaining the security and stability of Bosnia and Herzegovina. We welcome the extension of the mandate of the EU-led multinational stabilization force in BiH. China remains committed to developing friendly relations with all ethnic groups in BiH and will continue to play a constructive role in safeguarding the peace and stability in the country as well as promoting regional security," Geng said.
