The Brazilian and Chinese officials and business executives expressed willingness to jointly promote green economic transformation and strengthen cooperation in fields such as innovation, clean energy, and climate financing, since attending their annual business forum in São Paulo in mid October.
The annual meeting of the Brazil-China Business Council, or CEBC, has long been a forum where the public and private sectors from both countries review their cooperation and seek new partnerships and ideas.
This year's meeting took place ahead of the 2025 United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP30) scheduled to be held in November in Brazil's Amazonian city of Belem, with its theme aligning with the strategies and priorities of the Chinese and Brazilian businesses in green transformation.
Uallace Moreira, Brazilian Secretary of Industrial Development, Innovation, Trade and Services, said China's investment in Brazil's automobile and energy sectors will help promote the two countries' sustainable development, and Brazil's industrial policies are thoughtfully designed to serve economic growth.
"Every industrial policy in Brazil is thought structurally by every dimension of the economic model," he said.
Zhu Qingqiao, Chinese Ambassador to Brazil, underscored the critical role of enterprises in helping promote green transformation.
"China is acting firmly in this sector, becoming the world's largest investor in renewable energy. Energy and industrial structure transformation require companies to take an active role," he said.
Zhu said China and Brazil have a common goal in pursuing peace, development, cooperation, mutual benefits, and a win-win situation. The two sides can help jointly build a more just and sustainable world.
The attending representatives from financial institutions also saw great opportunities in Brazil's green development.
"Around two-thirds of our credit portfolio is related to those sectors. Mainly biofuels, soybean production, and also energy in all aspects. So, for us, it's core business. Brazil is very efficient," said Leonardo Oliveira, executive vice president at BOCOM BBM.
