China aims to raise the value of its core Internet of Things (IoT) industries to over 3.5 trillion yuan (about 510 billion U.S. dollars) in three years, according to an action plan issued jointly by nine government departments.

The action plan outlined key initiatives to promote the innovative development of the IoT industry from 2026 to 2028.

It said that by 2028, the innovation capacity of the IoT industry will have been steadily enhanced, with breakthroughs achieved in key technologies including perception, network, communication, data processing, and security. The plan calls for the intelligence levels of terminals and platforms to be significantly enhanced.

More than 50 advanced and applicable standards will be formulated and revised, the action plan said, calling for the creation of 10 application areas with hundreds of millions of connections and 15 application areas with tens of millions of connections.

The plan also proposes accelerating the in-depth integration between IoT application terminals and technologies, including artificial intelligence, 5G, human-computer interaction, to enhance the capabilities of application terminals in precise analysis, intelligent decision-making and convenient interaction.

Demand for IoT applications in the consumer sector will be boosted, the action plan said, with efforts to be made to accelerate development of technologies such as intelligent sensing and multimodal data fusion and to build advanced intelligent agents with autonomous sensing, control and execution capabilities.
