Chinese Vice Premier Liu Guozhong on Wednesday said that it is urgently necessary for all parties to pool their consensus and speed up the global poverty reduction.
Liu, also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, made the remarks in a speech at the opening ceremony of the 2026 Global Poverty Reduction and Development Forum.
Liu called on all sides to swiftly take practical steps to achieve poverty reduction goals under the United Nations' 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, and actively share their experiences in poverty alleviation.
Vigorous efforts should be made to let markets and technology play a greater role in poverty reduction, and multi-party coordination should be strengthened to improve the global poverty reduction governance system
China has initiated the establishment of the Global Partnership for Poverty Alleviation and Development (GPPAD), which has injected new impetus into accelerating the global poverty reduction, said Liu.
The country will actively support the GPPAD in playing its role in strengthening policy dialogue, technical demonstration and talent training, and carrying out a number of "small yet smart" cooperation projects to help developing countries enhance their poverty reduction capacity, he said.
