The ongoing 8th China International Import Expo (CIIE) in the east China megacity of Shanghai has drawn participation from thousands of global food companies seeking partnerships and business opportunities in the Chinese market.

Running from Nov 5 to 10, this year's CIIE features the largest-ever food and agricultural products exhibition in its history, hosting over 2,000 enterprises.

The exhibition area for food and agricultural products showcases a diverse array of specialty products from around the world, including fruits, beef and dairy products. To better engage with visitors, many exhibitors have set up tasting stations, inviting guests to sample their products.

Some of the exhibitors have chosen the CIIE as the launch platform for their products in China.

"The debut of our products at the CIIE lays a solid foundation for our future expansion in the Chinese market. We hope that through our ham products, more consumers can learn about Spanish culinary culture," said Jiang Fujing, a director of Spanish ham sales.

China is a highly attractive market for global business players. Many exhibitors have returned year after year, not missing a single edition of the CIIE, aiming to secure broader distribution channels for their new products.

"Mato Grosso State is participating in the CIIE once again, bringing our meat product MT Steak, as well as our popcorn, corn, and sesame for everyone to try. This year marks our largest exhibition stand at the CIIE in recent editions," said Mirael Praeiro, director of the Mato Grosso Investment Promotion Agency in Brazil.

"Now it's the eighth time we are coming, and we have 36 brands, out of which 13 are newcomers. They can find business partners here, and they can find new customers," said Guillaume Muriset, client success manager of Swiss Centers.

The Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) authorities' separatist moves to stoke cross-Strait hostility are unpopular and doomed to fail, said Zhang Han, spokeswoman for the State Council Taiwan Affairs Office in Beijing on Wednesday.

Zhang made the comments at a regular press conference in response to a media query about recent inappropriate remarks by Chiu Chui-cheng, head of the so-called "mainland affairs council", regarding the Chinese mainland's policy of advancing high-quality cross-Strait integrated development".

"Our fellow Taiwan compatriots are our kith and kin. Over the years, acting on the principle that 'people on both sides of the Taiwan Strait are all of the same family', we have actively promoted cross-Strait economic and cultural exchanges and cooperation, deepened the integrated development across various fields, and made steady progress in implementing policies that provide equal treatment to Taiwan compatriots. These efforts have continuously yielded new results, fully demonstrating our goodwill in seeking benefits for Taiwan compatriots and our sincerity in advancing the peaceful and integrated development of cross-Strait relations. Such endeavors have been met with strong support and wide acclaim from our Taiwan compatriots. Driven by its separatist pursuit of 'Taiwan secession', the DPP authorities are deeply fearful of closer ties between people across the Strait. They have deliberately fanned the flames of confrontation and antagonism, while resorting to slander and obstruction against anything that helps develop cross-Strait relations and benefits people on both sides. Such moves are deeply unpopular and are bound to fail," she said.
