A mainland spokesman on Wednesday slammed Taiwan's Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) authorities for disregarding the public opinion to fully lift the ban on food imports from Japan's nuclear disaster-hit Fukushima region.
Peng Qing'en, spokesman for the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council, was responding to a media query about Taiwan's announcement last Friday that it would end import restrictions on Fukushima's food products, effective immediately.
"We have noticed the relevant reports and the strong doubt from the Taiwan people concerning the DPP authorities' disregard for the public opinion and their decision to completely lift the ban on imports of related Japanese products. In pursuit of their own selfish interests, the DPP authorities are ignoring the public health, which fully exposes their true nature of advocating for Taiwan separatism and their shameless fawning on Japan," said Peng.
